~Sweet cravings are due to a lack of carbohydrates in your diet and an over-load of refined sugar. The best way to get rid of sweet cravings is to eat raw fruit and plenty of it or fill up on starches like sweet potatoes, white potatoes, squash, or carrots! If you plan properly...you can fill up on fresh fruit all day, go to a party, and NOT have a single craving for sweets :) People who follow a high carbohydrate diet like 80-10-10 (raw or cooked) don't have cravings for refined sugar, snacks, or fats.
~Drink plenty of water! We are simply dehydrated. As a society blessed with an abundance of fresh water, for some strange reason we choose to drink soda, sport drinks and lots of juice-drinks. This leaves us extremely dehydrated causing cravings and false hunger signals. If you wait to drink water when you are thirsty...you are already dehydrated! The best way to include water in your lifestyle is to drink a glass of water before every meal and snack! Try a warm cup of water with a squeeze of lemon...so yummy, sip it throughout the day!
~Exercise! Working out on a regular basis helps you stay focused on eating healthy! Most people who live an active lifestyle have higher food standards. There is no way to out-run a bad diet, and they know this! So, begin a regular exercise routine. Start with 30-45 minutes daily of moderate exercise like jogging, fitness classes, or biking! Pretty soon, you will want to fuel your body properly and make better choices at the holiday party!!
~Eat bananas!! Bananas are the perfect food! They are sweet, filling, and nutrient rich! Many athletes chose bananas as their favorite snack because it offers them lots of healthy fuel without weighing them down! Many people who eat a high-banana diet are very slim and active...unlike the rumors you have probably heard- 'bananas make you fat'. Many believe the banana has the power to help you maintain a slim physique! People like Freelee The Banana Girl of 30 Bananas A Day has made it her mission to spread the banana message!
~Think about your health. That is one piece of advice that is so important! We indulge all year...I would say during the season, but from what I see, it is all YEAR! Start being more aware of what you put into your body. Take a moment and think of your health! If you are in good health & are feeling amazing...don't risk it by stuffing your face with junk. Take a moment, be thankful, be grateful and skip the junk food! Your body deserves it, you deserve it :) There is way more to the holiday season than just food. I enjoy being around my family, I enjoy the lights on the tree, and the snow on the ground, that to me is what the holidays are all about!
